Introduced To Cultivation In 1910, It Was Said At The Time By Ernest ‘China’ Wilson, A Famous Name In Bamboo, To Be The Most Beautiful He Had Ever Seen. Umbrella Bamboo Is An Elegant Clump-Forming Bamboo With With Slender Arching Canes Bearing A Soft Canopy Of Copious Cascading Semi-Evergreen Foliage.
The New Shoots Are Light Blue With Tan Culm Sheaths, Ageing To A Yellowish-Green. This Plant Looks Best When Planted In An Area That Gets Afternoon Shade Or Dappled Sunlight Throughout The Day. Like All Other Fargesias, It Does Not Have Running Rhizomes And Needs No Containment To Prevent Spread. The Stems Are More Widely Spaced Than Usual And Have A Very Upright/Arching Habit. Plant In Any Well-Drained Soil With Plenty Of Organic Matter In Sun Or Shade.
